Adventures Ashore: Cabo San Lucas

In addition to snorkeling, Booze Cruising, and whale watching, there are plenty other things to do in Cabo San Lucas even if you have a short time as we did.  We were only in port for 48 hours, and we were determined to make the most of it.

Initially, we wanted to rent a waverunner! Then, we heard some not so great stories about waverunners in Cabo involving accidents so we decided we wanted to play it safe. Besides, after snorkeling a full day and being a cruise, we figured we had a good amount of time on water. We thought ATV riding would be safer. At least we’d get helmets and stuff.

Migrino Beach

We booked the Migrino Beach Tour, and decided to share an ATV for less than $35/each for the 3 hour tour.  This was definitely Richard’s highlight of our trip (after the unlimited Dos Equis from the Jungle Cruise).

Getting Geared Up

Jeans are definitely a good decision for the excursion.  You are provided the helmet, goggles, and questionably worn bandanas for your ride.  Once you’re geared up, you’re off with your guide, following the path to the beach!

We hit the sand, got some amazing views, and some great memories.

Riding to Migrino Beach with Angela and Ellis

We let the guys take a solo ride. Richard would eventually flip over in a dip and have the ATV on top of him.

We went from riding the ground to flying through the air later that day.  We went parasailing with Sky Kings Parasailing for $30/per person compared to the $90/per person the cruise was charging.

The Junge Cruise was an incredible experience.

Booze Cruise – Cabo San Lucas

Spring break is the perfect time for a Booze Cruise!  Spring break 2010 was not only our first masses cruise – Carnival Elation (San Diego to Cabo San Lucas) – it was also our first booze cruise.  If you’re heading to Cabo, definitely take the budget friendly Jungle Booze Cruise, which includes unlimited alcohol, snorkeling, food, and whale watching if you’re lucky.

Your $45 dollars will get you a four hour tour, continental breakfast, snorkeling gear and instruction, visits to 2 separate reefs, a pass by the famous Land’s End (The Arch), life jackets, seal rock, open bar, and lunch. Between December and April, you can even see this booze cruise as a whale watching tour all for the same price.  We definitely felt lucky that we saw a great sighting of a whale without having to pay for a separate whale watching cruise as others had done. Here are some photos from our trip!

This is the seal rock as how we saw it, but it usually has seals on it...

Gastrograsms: Cruise Cuisine

I wrote an earlier post about the  pros and cons of Cruising.  One of the pros was the abundance of food!  Although the cost of drinks can add up quickly, the unlimited amount of food can be worth it for many.  As great as the multiple dining experiences can be, the lack of local cuisine is what is missing from cruise cuisine.  However, it doesn’t mean they still aren’t delicious, just different.  I’ve heard varying accounts of cruise cuisine, but we were more than happy with our experience on the Carnival Elation.

The following are Gastrogasms from our Carnival Elation cruise to Cabo San Lucas on Spring Break, March 2010.

Carnival Elation

To Cruise, or Not to Cruise: That is the Question

Up until recently, I was definitely on the – “I think I’d go crazy – and sea sick – sitting on a boat all day” – side of the pro- / anti- cruiser debate. If it weren’t for the affordable price, and the raves from my roomates, I probably wouldn’t have ever made it on a real cruise.

Carnival Elation

Spring Break 2010, was our senior spring break and it had to be amazing. We booked the Carnival 5-day cruise from San Diego to Cabo San Lucas, with 2 nights at sea and 2 nights in Cabo.

I didn’t really know what to expect, but after my experience I can vouch that a cruise ship is definitely like a mini-city: an endless amount of food-filled city.

The Carnival Elation is a beautiful boat, but from what I’ve read an heard, there are much pricier and more luxurious cruise lines out there. Carnival Elation served our needs well enough. The food was great every night, the staff we unbelievable, gambling was fun, and even some of the cheesy entertainment was worth while.
